How Amplicon Middle East equipped the security forces with mission-critical vehicle networking for real-time data and AI at the edge.

The Problem: Mission-Critical Connectivity for a Mobile Workforce in the Middle East

Modern law enforcement operations in the Middle East are not confined to fixed command centers or static surveillance infrastructure. Police patrol vehicles have evolved into mobile operational units, expected to collect, analyze, and act on vast amounts of data in real time. To create truly effective Smart Police Car Systems, the client needed to overcome four critical challenges:

Real-Time Communication

One of the most critical challenges was real-time communication. Existing vehicle systems relied heavily on centralized architectures, where data captured in the field had to be transmitted back to headquarters for processing and validation. Network latency, congestion, or temporary loss of connectivity introduced unacceptable delays. In safety-critical situations, even seconds matter. Officers in the field needed instant access to intelligence, alerts, and situational awareness without waiting for remote confirmation.

Weak Signal Coverage

Signal coverage presented another major obstacle. Patrol vehicles routinely operate in environments where cellular connectivity is unreliable or inconsistent. Urban canyons created by dense high-rise developments often cause signal reflection and attenuation, while remote highways, desert terrain, and off-road areas may fall outside strong network coverage altogether. These connectivity gaps resulted in communication blackouts that compromised operational effectiveness and officer safety.

Unstable Vehicle Conditions

The physical environment inside a patrol vehicle added further complexity. Standard IT hardware is not designed to withstand the constant vibration, mechanical shock, power fluctuations, and extreme temperatures common in vehicles operating across the Middle East. Prolonged exposure to high ambient heat, combined with frequent engine start-stop cycles and uneven terrain, led to frequent equipment failures and increased maintenance overhead.

Slow Centralized Processing

Centralized data processing models proved to be a bottleneck. High-resolution video streams from cameras, data from sensors, and inputs from identification systems generated enormous volumes of information. Transmitting all of this data to a central control room for analysis created latency, bandwidth strain, and dependency on uninterrupted connectivity. For officers making split-second decisions, this delay introduced unacceptable risk. The client needed intelligence at the edge, inside the vehicle itself, where decisions are made.

The Client: Government Security Forces

The client is a globally recognized government security force, widely regarded as a pioneer in adopting advanced smart law enforcement technologies. With a strong mandate to enhance public safety, operational efficiency, and officer protection, the organization has consistently invested in innovation to stay ahead of emerging security challenges.

Their vision extended far beyond basic vehicle connectivity. The goal was to transform every patrol car into a fully connected, intelligent mobile unit capable of acting autonomously while remaining seamlessly integrated with central command systems.

Each vehicle needed to function as a mobile hub, capable of collecting data from multiple sources, processing it in real time, and delivering actionable insights directly to officers on the scene. To achieve this, they required a solution partner with deep expertise in rugged computing, industrial networking, edge AI, and secure wireless communications in demanding Middle Eastern environments.

The Technology: A Rugged In-Vehicle Computing & Networking Stack

A powerful and reliable hardware stack was designed and deployed in over 250 vehicles to form the core of the police vehicle communication solutions.

Nexcom ATC 8110

ATC 8110/8110-F

A high-performance, rugged in-vehicle computer chosen for its ability to handle powerful onboard AI processing and manage multiple data streams. Its automotive-grade design ensures stable operation under extreme temperature variations, vibration, and electrical noise, making it ideally suited for long-term deployment inside patrol vehicles.

Oring IGPS-1080-24 Switches

Oring IGPS-1080-24 Switches

Industrial-grade Gigabit PoE switches to reliably connect and power all IP-based devices within the vehicle, such as cameras and sensors. These switches provide reliable, high-bandwidth connectivity while simultaneously delivering power to connected devices such as IP cameras, sensors, and communication modules. Designed for harsh industrial environments, the switches maintain stable performance despite shock, vibration, and fluctuating power conditions.

Panorama LPMM4-6-60 Mako Antennas

Mako Antennas

High-performance 4-in-1 vehicular antennas providing robust and stable connectivity. These high-performance 4-in-1 vehicular antennas support LTE, GPS, and Wi-Fi in a compact, ruggedized form factor. Their design optimizes signal reception and transmission even in challenging RF environments, providing stable connectivity while the vehicle is in motion, stationary, or operating in low-signal areas.

The Solution: A Mobile Command Vehicle with Edge AI

The integrated hardware and software solution transformed each patrol car into a self-sufficient mobile command vehicle, directly addressing all the initial challenges.

The combination of the Panorama Mako antenna and industrial-grade cellular connectivity provides a stable, low-latency 5G network link, ensuring reliable communication even in remote areas. The entire hardware stack, from the Nexcom computer to the Oring switch, is ruggedized and certified to withstand the harsh heat, shock, and vibration inside a patrol car in the Middle East.

Most critically, the powerful Nexcom ATC 8110 enables onboard AI processing. As a result, it allows data from cameras and sensors to be analyzed directly in the car, providing instant alerts and insights to officers without the dangerous delay of sending information to headquarters. The system, complete with secure VPNs and Secure Wi-Fi for Police Cars, provides officers with the reliable, real-time intelligence.
